Longrun Meadow is a focus for events in Taunton including all sorts of activities such as running and orienteering, to being a favourite dog-walking spot or just sitting in the cathedral for a break away from the bustle of the town centre.

There are lots of opportunities to get involved in the management of Longrun Meadow through The Friends of Longrun Meadow including helping to manage the site for wildlife

Wildlife at Longrun Meadow

Lots of wildlife makes its home in the meadow. Kingfishers, chiff chaffs and blue tits; water voles, wood mice and otters; butterflies, dragonflies and beetles to name just a few. There are weekday and weekend work parties to help manage the meadow run by the Friends group. Come and join in…

SPONGE 2020 Plans

Longrun Meadow already provides a great space for people as well as wildlife, and at the same time performs an important function as a storage area for water when the Tone can’t cope with the amount of rainfall it is carrying. This spring, we are looking at improving this even further by undertaking works on the drain running from Castle School car park into the Tone, as part of the European-funded SPONGE 2020 project.
